The most common methods for the production of
ornamental plaster are running with a knife or casting in a mold.
Moldings made with a knife are either run in place or run on a table and
then applied. Below is a photo of a plaster knife used to run a crown
molding. This knife was designed to run moldings on a table, note the
guide strip at the left of the knife. This runs along the edge of the
table. Knives were also used to run moldings in place such as crown
molding. Also below is a photo of the mold use to cast the gilded plaster
sphinx picture beneath it. Note that the mold consists of 2 parts the box or mother and the
urethane mold.
