The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia offers over 100,000 square feet of
floor space surrounded by decorative finishes and ornamental plasterwork.
The Fox Theatre opened Christmas day 1929. It is decorated in Moorish
and Egyptian themes and considered one of the premier performing arts
venues in the country.
Below is one of many projects that we have
successfully completed for the Fox.
The
1998 lobby ceiling project was necessitated by ordinary environmental
circumstances paired with extraordinary events such as plumbing leaks and
a fire.
The treatment area, measuring approximately 100 feet by 35
feet, was surveyed and the differing levels of damage observed required a
bifurcation of approaches.
Regions of deep plaster decay were
identified for patching and pattern recreation while less disrupted areas
were programmed for touch up.
All methods were selected and analyzed
using the most badly damaged area as an on-site laboratory. Prior
experience in the lobby had proven the need for careful investigation; an
earlier refurbishment of the walls had long hidden the stencil pattern
revealed through the exposure shown in the photo.
